september wrap-up
I guess I’m supposed to do a meta wrap-up post and talk a little about the blog, since it's the last day of the month. Sure.
I think I’m relatively happy with how this sprint went. It’s not as though every post was a perfect banger, but what can you expect really. Most of the time I was too disorganized to plan posts out until like 11pm. Which actually turned out surprisingly okay sometimes, I think some of my more successful posts this month were started at 11pm?
But nevertheless, I do think I want to try to aim for writing some more better thought out posts, over the coming weeks and months. Which probably means not trying to blog daily. On the other hand, look at what happened last year — after posting daily in November, I didn’t really post at all for months and months, until there were a couple earlier this summer. I think I had sort of hoped to keep up the blogging habit even after I stopped doing it daily. Like, before November, back in September and October of last year, I think I was putting out blog posts — not on any sort of regular schedule, but at least a couple most weeks, right? I’d been hoping to fall back into that sort of schedule after November, but I didn't.
What I’m trying to say is, I think I do need to try to informally commit myself to some sort of schedule if I don’t want to just stop blogging. Not necessarily a strict schedule, but maybe I’ll aim for once a week or whatever.
Technically, this wasn’t a month of daily blogging. I missed one post a couple days ago because it totally slipped my mind that I was supposed to write one until, like, 11:55pm or something. I am not very torn up about this. 29/30 would be a pretty silly thing to be upset about. But I am kind of annoyed that like, last year one of the posts was out just past midnight, this year I missed a day, so I’ve never technically done a totally flawless month if you’re being stingy about it. So maybe I’ll try to someday. Maybe next February or something, that month would be easy.
I think earlier this month I promised coverage of the Millennium prize problems. I still intend to do this. The issue is just that the Hodge conjecture is difficult to explain. Like, if you go look up YouTube videos on the Hodge conjecture, they’re all like, “the Hodge conjecture is infamously the one Millennium prize problem that you just have absolutely no hope of explaining to a layman”. I nonetheless intend to try, it’s just taking a while, and it’s a difficult thing to get done while trying to keep up daily posting. That’s a post that will take several days to piece together. And of course I will get to the others too. I’m not sure if anyone is upset about these not having come out yet, writing the posts is from my perspective largely just about clearing up my own understanding and I don’t know if they'd be a good way for anyone else to learn, but I figured I’d give an update.
I’ll probably try to still do daily blogs for the next couple days or something to make up for the missed day a couple days ago. This isn't really necessary I don’t think but I figure future me will appreciate the cope material. And then I dunno if I’ll do weekly or what.
I also might put a pause on the blog — or at least not aim for weekly or anything — and instead try to get into YouTube production with AI as a video editor or something, since that seems like it might be starting to become tractable nowadays. I have many many hours of video content up on YouTube but almost none of it is scripted, so this would be a new sort of thing. I’m not sure if I’ll actually end up giving that much of a shot, but it’s something I’ve been occasionally thinking about.
Whatever I do, I’ll try to at least put out some some of project on a regularish basis, in addition to my steady stream of miscellaneous nonsense.
Thank you all for reading!
instead of hodge, have you tried wrapping your head around P vs NP, riemann, yang-mills, and/or BSD in the meantime? (i think the first two are the easiest to explain overall.)
No. We're doing Hodge. We gotta figure it out before OpenAI releases their rumored progress.
